Chapter on Knowing Vigilance (al-Ḥadhar)
Chapter on the Knowledge of Caution
Al-Harith, may God have mercy on him, said: O my brother, I warn you, and I warn my own soul, of a station in which faces shall be humbled, and tyrants shall be brought low therein, and the arrogant shall be abased therein, and the first and the last shall surrender therein with abasement, destitution, and submission before the Lord of the worlds. The One, the Overpowering — who has no second in sovereignty and no partner in His judgment — shall gather them, after long trial, for separation and decree, on a Day in which He swore upon Himself that He would not leave a single servant in this world [without questioning him about his deeds in his secret and his open conduct, and about what He commanded him and forbade him.]
So consider with what body you shall stand before Him, and prepare an answer for the questioning and a correct reply for the response, for none is truthful save the truthful, and none lies save the liars.
